Book – Secrets of The Millionaire Mind (Mastering the Inner Game of Wealth)

Author – T. Harv Eker

Genre – Self-Help

Published in – 2005

“If you’re not rich and happy, there’s a good chance you still have some things to learn about money, success, and life.”

I have read many books on money, and I can assure you that the Secret of Millionaire Mind is the prerequisite for financial well-being, freedom, and happiness.

Harv claims if your subconscious mind’s “financial blueprint” is not set for success, nothing you learn, nothing you know, and nothing you do will make much of a difference.

About the Book

Harv discusses why only a tiny percentage of people make most of the money and claims that we all have the power to make more money and be financially free, irrespective of how our life has turned up so far.

The book is divided into two parts. In Part 1, he discusses why most people struggle financially, are extremely poor, or barely reach the middle class. In Part 2, he shares 17 money beliefs, the thought processes of rich & poor, and how one can change the results by changing their thinking.

Part 1 – Your Money Blueprint

Harv claims that your character, thinking, and beliefs are a critical part of what determines the level of your success.

“Your income can grow only to the extent you do.”

Harv calls our core beliefs about money Blueprint. He explains that most of our thoughts are influenced by all we hear, observe, and experience while growing up, and we must put them under scrutiny and change them if they restrict our growth in any way.

Harv explains the cycle of manifestation like this – Thought -> Feeling -> Action = Results.

Harv provides a declaration one can read to impress the subconscious with rich thoughts throughout the books. He differentiates confessions from affirmations.

Affirmation – A positive statement asserting that a goal you wish to achieve is already happening. With this, the concern is that a tiny voice in the mind revolts, stating it’s untrue.

Declaration – To state an official intention to take action or adopt a particular status. We intend to act in a certain way to accomplish our goals, which in turn is accepted by the mind as possibilities.

Here are two ways by which our Money beliefs are conditioned –

1. The First Influence – Verbal Programming

  • Verbal conditioning is potent. When the subconscious mind must choose between deeply rooted emotions and logic, emotions will almost always win.
  • Declaration – Place your hand at your heart and say – What I heard about money isn’t necessarily true. I adopt new ways of thinking, supporting my happiness and success. Touch your head and say – I have a millionaire mind.

2. The Second Influence – Modeling

  • As they say, monkey sees, money does. We learn more by observation as a kid. Think about it: how was your home environment growing up, especially around money? Did it come quickly, regularly, or was it a struggle, caused more joy, or was it always the subject of worries?
  • Declaration – Place your hand on your heart and say – I release my unsupportive money experiences from the past and create a new and prosperous future. Touch your head and say – I have a millionaire mind.

PART II – The Wealth Files – Seventeen Ways Rich People Think and Act Differently from Poor and Middle-Class People.

Harv describes the mind metaphorically as a file cabinet like one in an office or home. We have information on all aspects of life saved in different files, and all our decisions come from those files. We find it difficult to face situations that don’t match the information in those files, and our default reaction to such scenarios is fear.

The good news is that we can change these file cabinets and arrange them how rich people think, like changing cluttered wardrobes.
